Red Ladder's mission states “we will go wherever the audience is”. Yes, sometimes that’s a plush city-centre theatre. But often it’s a community centre or social club or church hall on a suburban council estate, out in the countryside, or the middle of an ex-mining community. If somewhere has a space big enough for a live performance with an audience, even if compact, we’re there! The Red Ladder Local circuit is a network of these alternative theatre venues, in West and South Yorkshire, which we have been curating since 2016. Here, we work with Community Venue Hosts to co-curate a programme of participation and professional performance from a range of touring theatre companies.
