2011-12 SONGS OF FAITH AND SACRIFICE by Przemek Wojcieszek
Presented at the Rag Factory, Rich Mix, POSK (London).
The play shows scenes from the every-day life of Piotr and Anna – an average, thirty-something couple from a big city. Piotr is a successful stockbroker and Anna makes illustrations for children’s books. Piotr 'does not need to believe in anything, to get up in the morning, to take the rubbish out’. Anna is looking for spiritual guidance. One day, their seven-year-old son Igor, faints at school. Since that moment, their days are filled with hours spent waiting for the test results in the cold tiled hospital corridor and doubts about the meaning of suffering. They taste of Coke from a hospital vending machine. Mariusz, Anna’s parish priest and friend, leaves her the rosary, while a prostitute – Agnieszka, leaves something more than just scratch marks on Piotr’s neck.
